Gamebot and MEE6: Which Leveling System Fits Your Server

They solve different problems, despite similar feature lists

· · 2 min read

MEE6 and Gamebot both do message XP, levels, and role rewards, which makes them look interchangeable on paper. They're built around different ideas about what XP is for, and that's the difference worth understanding before you pick one.

One note before the comparison. Specific feature and pricing details on both sides change regularly, so I'm not going to assert what MEE6's current tiers include, and you should check their pricing page directly. What follows is about design, which changes more slowly.

MEE6 is a server management suite

Leveling is one module among many, because MEE6 also covers moderation, custom commands, welcome messages, reaction roles, and a variety of automations, all managed through a mature web dashboard.

That's a real advantage if your moderators aren't technical. It's also the more documented of the two by a wide margin, simply because it's been around longer and is installed on a very large number of servers, so if you get stuck, someone has written a tutorial about your exact problem.

Pick MEE6 if you want one bot handling most of your server's automation, and leveling is one item on that list.

Gamebot is a games and rewards system

Gamebot started as a bot for playing multiplayer games in Discord, things like Chess, Poker, Connect 4, Anagrams, and Cards Against Humanity. The XP and economy system exists to reward playing them and being active.

That means XP has somewhere to go, because it feeds quests, achievements, daily rewards, and a shop with items across five rarity tiers. Levels aren't a dead end once you stop climbing, since the currency still buys things.

Pick Gamebot if you want your server to have things to *do*, and want the reward system attached to those things rather than sitting alongside them.

The honest summary

These aren't really competitors, and a fair number of servers run both. MEE6 handles moderation and automation, and Gamebot handles games and the rewards attached to them.

If you only want a rank card and role rewards with no games and no economy, a dedicated leveling bot will do it with less setup than either of them.

Both have free tiers, and a test server costs nothing, so trying them will answer this faster than any article can. If the games angle sounds like what your server is missing, Gamebot is here.
